We took our school from a physical school on a Friday to a distance learning campus by Monday. We didn’t miss a day – not yet. And the learning continues. I was asked today if I’m sharing and certainly, I am. However, I want to share and talk more about this. I also know that that I too have a lot to learn, even though I’ve been teaching online since 2006 and have collaborated globally for years. So, last week I called one of my major sponsors – a distance learning professional development company – Advancement Courses. They know how to do distance learning. They agreed for three of their top course designers to come on a free webinar with me to talk about distance learning.

We have an outline to cover:

  • Where we are now and the struggles we face
  • Emotional trauma and learning
  • What makes effective distance learning (and how it is different from face to face)
  • Instructional design best practices
  • Creating lessons
  • Translating face to face to online including grouping, small groups and one on one time
  • Accessibility and equity
  • Assessment
  • Project-based learning online

We will also share tools, tips, and ideas and I’ll talk for the first time publicly about some of the things I’ve learned as well in this process. For K12 teachers. Higher ed could learn some things, but we are specifically addressing K12.

Why now? This is not an easy time to put together a webinar, however, it is the most efficient way right now to share best practices to you where you are. I hope you’ll join us on Thursday at 7pm. I will produce the video and give it to Advancement Courses to host on their site as well.

What will not be covered? This is not covering all aspects of distance learning. Packets. Meals. That sort of thing. We are specifically talking just e-learning for this webinar.

Online Learning Best Practices – Webinar Overview

Join Vicki Davis @coolcatteacher and three top course designers from Advancement Courses. These four successful distance course designers for both K12 and teachers will share ten essential online learning best practices. In this session, we’ll share where we are now, emotional trauma and learning, how effective distance learning compares to face to face learning, how to take your class online, accessibility and equity, assessment, and project-based learning.
